Hi ! Welcome to the Jessica Schmitt Photography blog from a Colorado Wedding Photographer. I journal about my couples, photography, life and travels. Stay a while and say hello!
Talia and Kyle were married on a beautiful spring day in Estes Park at Della Terra.
Kyle shares, “We’re both born and raised in Colorado. We wanted to take inspiration directly from what Colorado is known for – the Rocky Mountains. So we wanted a wedding that was traditional but incorporated natural themes and colors like lavender and sage.”
The couple shared a first look in front of the chateau among the aspen trees.
The music for the ceremony included some favorite songs. Kyle walked down the aisle to “From” by Bon Iver. The wedding party walked to “So Easy (To Fall In Love)” by Olivia Dean. Talia walked down to “Strawberries (Wax Remix)” by Caamp & Wax Jackets.
Talia and Kyle enjoyed their ceremony more than than they expected. The couple shares, “We joked before that a 10-minute ceremony was our dream because we don’t like being the center of attention. But being celebrated by our closest friends and family was enjoyable and profound in a way that we didn’t expect. It also helped that the weather and backdrop were gorgeous.”
When it was time to read their vows to each other something happened that was really fun and something I’ve never seen before! The couple played rock-paper-scissors to see who would read first.
The couple shares, “We spent weeks telling the other person that they were going first in the vow reading. When we actually couldn’t make a decision, we decided that rock-paper-scissors was the fairest compromise we could come up with. Talia is really competitive so it’s no shock that she won.”
The vows became one of the favorite moments of the day. Kyle shares, “We both spent a lot of time writing our vows and dropping hints about what we included so we were really looking forward to finally telling each other all of the inside jokes we thought of and the things we love about each other.”
Something unexpected happened during the ceremony. Kyle shares, “During the ceremony a huge fly landed on our officiant, Gabe, while he was reading a passage we had picked. He was completely unaware and we were cracking up. He later confided in us that he thought he picked the wrong reading so he panicked and tried to speed through it (it was the right reading). Thankfully, the fly took off a short time later, but it was a funny moment that we’ll remember. The only other thing that was unexpected was also during the ceremony. Talia’s nails were too long to turn the pages in her vow book so we turned the pages together. We later had guests tell us it was the sweetest vow reading they’d ever seen.”
The couple shares, “The reception party was one of the highlights. We both wanted to dance the night away with our friends and family and we definitely did. We even had some family members make it to the dance floor that we didn’t think would! Weddings bring the party out in everyone.”
Their honeymoon is coming up this fall. The couple shares, “We’ll be jet-setting to Tanzania for 3 weeks in early October for our honeymoon where we will be driving and flying 1,200 miles around the country on safari. We hope to see all the animals we can, enjoy savannah sunrises, and be awestruck by some of the best star-gazing we’ll ever experience. We’ll end at an all-inclusive beach resort in Zanzibar for white sandy beaches and a dip in the Indian Ocean.”
